I tre fumetti (e i 100 libri) preferiti da David Bowie

Dal 25 settembre al 27 novembre 2013, l’Art Gallery di Ontario (Canada) ha messo in esposizione, all’interno della monumentale retrospettiva David Bowie is, testi scritti a mano, fotografie, video, scenografie, strumenti musicali, pagine di diario e disegni di proprietà dello stesso Bowie, raccontando la storia di una vita trascorsa tra musica, cinema e arte.

Presentando l’inaugurazione, il curatore Geoffrey Marsh ha consegnato alla stampa la lista dei cento libri preferiti dal cantante (elencati in ordine cronologico). Tra i titoli presenti – si va dalla Lolita di Nabokov all’Arancia Meccanica di Burgess, alle Vie dei canti di Chatwin, all’ultimo del 2007, The Age of American Unreason di Susan Jacoby – si trovano tre riviste a fumetti: “The Beano”, “Viz” e “Raw”.

Se per la prima, ci si riferisce ovviamente al periodo dell’infanzia (celeberrimi i personaggi nati tra le pagine della rivista negli anni ’50: Dennis the Menace, Minnie the Minx, The Bash Street Kids), la seconda parla del Bowie quarantenne, star planeria ormai lontana dagli eccessi del decennio precedente, divertito dalla satira smaccatamente british del magazine in bianco e nero. Per la terza, “Raw”, il discorso è infine diverso. La presenza nella lista dei favourite del leggendario progetto editoriale fondato da Art Spiegelman e dalla moglie Françoise Mouly nel 1980 rivela il grado di attenzione di Bowie al mondo del fumetto, mostrando un gusto raffinatamente d’avanguardia.
